AI technology has yet again come up with something intriguing, making social media platforms worldwide buzz with excitement. AI has been deciphering billions of images through distinctive social media channels to build human clones in the past few months.
The Project
The project commissioned AI to depict the images to understand what people think of the ideal body type and how it affects them. And so, the experiment results came out to be highly unrealistic. Both men’s and women’s images were heavily influenced by olive skin tones. When it came to the women’s images, 37% of the images were biased towards blond hair and 53% for olive skin and brown eyes. Whereas for men, it was bent more towards brown hair in 67% of all images, the rest for brown eyes and ripped six-packs. The study also found out that the images represented were more revealing than other images.
Why Did AI Build Such Images?
All the data mostly came from social media channels. Today, so many brands and companies are promoting unrealistic body types and everyone is hiding behind filters, leading to a generation of impractical images. James Campigotto, a data journalist who was part of the research, said in a statement that these images were designed to explore the preferences of AI. However, with the results AI laid out, it could impact people in the wrong way. For example, if someone works hard to stay fit, the AI-generated images could make them wonder whether they are doing things right. And in the long run, it could actually affect their self-esteem.
