The Dune Movie Is Coming Up, and Here’s Everything About it So Far

Frank Herbert’s novel Dune has seen a lot of screen adaptations (both TV series and movies), but none of them was received well by the audience. Even Alejandro Jodorowsky and David Lynch have tried. However, it seems that these famous directors didn’t have the technology to do that. Director Denis Villeneuve has already taken the path, and he also has the advantage of modern technology, as well as a beloved Hollywood megastar cast.

Everything There Is to Know About the Plot

Dune combines one of the great frontiers of the original Star Wars trilogy with a more existing iteration of the prequels’ council-heavy power politics. The novel is notable for its socio-political complexity and massive world-building.

When Is Dune Set to Release?

The movie was split into two parts, and the first part was originally set to release on December 18th, 2020, but has been pushed back to October 1st, 2021. Other movies delayed by Warner Bros. include Wonder Woman 1984 and The Batman.

The Hollywood Supercast

The cast includes names like Timothée Chalamet, Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, and everyone hot in Hollywood right now.

Speaking of “hot” people, everyone from the cast filmed Dune in the very hot canyons of southern Jordan, where the temperature was hitting 120° Fahrenheit. On top of that, most of the cast had to wear rubber armor.

More About the Director

Dune has seen a lot of adaptations, but no one has succeeded so far. However, Denis Villeneuve might just be the perfect person for the job. He has ambitious sci-fi movies under his belt (mostly notable for Blade Runner 2049), and the filmmaker has successfully pulled off some very difficult literary adaptations. One of them was Enemy, which was based on José Saramago’s Kafkaesque novel, The Double.
