There Are Delays in Kobe Bryant’s Induction to the Hall of Fame

Due to the current pandemic, the induction ceremony into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame will likely be delayed. This year, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Tamika Catchings, and numerous other coaches or executives were going to be inducted.

Delaying the Ceremony

The 2020 Hall of Fame induction was arguably going to be the most significant one since the class of 2009 was admitted with Michael Jordan, David Robinson, John Stockton, and C. Vivian Stringer.

The CEO of the Hall of Fame, John Doleva, said that the decision would be finalized this week whether or not the ceremony will take place during the last weekend in August.

The Hall of Fame is located in the state of Massachusetts, which is close to New York City – just one of the global epicenters of the pandemic. There was talk about it being delayed until Columbus Day weekend, which falls on October 9-11 or even the Spring of 2021. The hope is by that time, the infection rates will have gone down.

The ceremony is going to be moved from Symphony Hall – with 2,611 capacity – to MassMutual Center – with 8,319 capacity – in order to allow more room for social distancing among the patrons.

There was a possibility of combining two classes, 2020 and 2021; however, John Doleva ruled it out.

Just two months after his traumatic death, Kobe Bryant was elected to lead the class of 2020 in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Bryant was a five-time NBA Champion and the fourth all-time lead scorer in NBA history. He even won two Olympic gold medals.
